How Do I Install a JuiceBox Pro 40 Charger?

A JuiceBox Pro 40 is installed on a dedicated 240 volt circuit by a licensed electrician, following the manufacturer's instructions. The electrician sizes the breaker and wire to your unit's rating, mounts the charger, and handles the permit and inspection.

What circuit does a 40 amp class charger need?

A charger rated for 40 amps of continuous output typically needs a 50 amp breaker, since charging is a continuous load sized at one and a quarter times the amps. Confirm the exact rating on your model's label before the circuit is built.

Wire is chosen for the run length and conditions. Commonly it is 6 AWG copper on a 50 amp circuit, but the electrician decides based on code.

If your panel cannot support the full output, the unit may allow a lower setting. Check the manufacturer's instructions.

Because this model is a well known one, many homeowners already own it when they call. That is fine. We install the charger you bought, and we only need the model, the rating label and the planned mounting spot to size the circuit.

Is this charger hardwired or plug-in?

Check your model's documentation, because installation options depend on the specific version. Some units are hardwired and some offer a plug option. Hardwired is generally preferred for higher amperage and outdoor use. Do not change a unit's connection method yourself.

The label and manual state which is allowed. Do not modify the connection method on your own.

If your model uses a plug, the outlet must be a quality, correctly rated receptacle with GFCI protection as current code requires.

If your garage already has a 240 volt outlet for a dryer or welder, do not assume it can be used. Those circuits are sized and protected for different loads, and an electrician needs to check them before you plug in a charger.

Where should the charger be mounted?

Mount the charger within easy cable reach of the car's port, protected from impact, and out of direct weather as much as possible. Garage walls near the parking spot are the usual choice, with the height recommended by the manufacturer.

Arizona heat is hard on equipment sitting in the sun. Shade or a garage wall helps, and an outdoor rated enclosure matters if it's exposed.

Think about where you park now and where you might park later. A little planning avoids stretching the cable.

A charger left running for hours at high current is a stress test for any connection. Tight terminals, correct wire and a proper breaker are what keep it cool, and that is where an experienced electrician earns their fee.

Does the installation need a permit?

Yes, a new 240 volt charger circuit generally needs an electrical permit and inspection from the city or county building department. A licensed contractor pulls the permit and is responsible for the work. Confirm requirements with your city. Heat is the main concern, so avoid direct sun where you can.

Do not skip the permit. The inspection protects you and supports insurance and resale.

Vortech installs the charger you purchase and does not sell it. We can quote the circuit once we know your model. Contact us for a written quote.

After the install, check the charger now and then for warm spots at the plug or wall. Anything unusual means stop using it and call for a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install it myself if I am handy?

The circuit should be installed by a licensed electrician. A 240 volt circuit involves the main panel and carries fire and shock risk. A permit and inspection are normally required, which a licensed contractor handles. Plan for the permit and inspection too.

What if the charger is no longer supported?

Support terms are set by the manufacturer. Check the maker's current guidance for your model, including app and firmware support. The electrical circuit stays useful even if you change chargers later. Warranty and support policies are set by the manufacturer.

Will the charger fit my panel?

That depends on a load calculation of your service and existing loads. Many homes fit, and some need a lower setting, load management or an upgrade. An electrician checks it during the quote. Photos of the panel help with the first quote.
